Give woody notes a new
dimension
In 2021, at Beautyworld Middle East, Eurofragance unveiled its very first captive ingredient that had been four years in the making. While the Eurofragance palette of perfumery ingredients counts an impressive 1,200 raw materials, we felt there was still room for an ingredient that could deliver a new genderless expression for woody notes.
In addition to developing a raw material that would deliver volume and diffusiveness in perfume compositions, the R&D Experts and Perfumers challenged themselves to develop an upcycled ingredient. Their starting point would be discarded sawdust from wood mills in British Columbia processing western cedar wood. Using different natural purification techniques, from this base, they were able to extract the molecules with the most promising olfactive properties. After more than three years, the team succeeded in producing a premium proprietary ingredient from discarded wood waste.

An evolving positioning
When Sylven® was launched in 2021, it was reserved for the design of perfumes in upscale product categories, be it Fine Fragrance, Home or Personal Care. We were producing the material in small quantities and it was a relatively time-consuming process. At present, we have perfected its production process. We nevertheless believe that when Sylven® is included in a Perfumer’s fragrance formula, it imparts a premium quality to his or her creation.

At Eurofragance, we take sustainability extremely seriously. This guiding principle is particularly applicable in our Innovation Center. The Scientists who collaborate in this department work hard to provide green chemistry solutions. We also know that more and more of the consumers who enjoy your products are often motivated by a sustainability story, so it is only logical that we developed our first proprietary ingredient via a natural, upcycled process as we feel a responsibility towards people and planet.
