Barcelona, June 17, 2021 – Eurofragance has named Olegario Monegal to lead the global development of its functional perfumery business, effective May 10, 2021. As Global Business Unit Director, Home & Personal Care—a newly created position at Eurofragance—he will be responsible for accelerating the growth rate of these two categories. Monegal will report to Laurent Mercier, Chief Executive Officer, and has been appointed to Eurofragance’s Management Team.
As a fragrance veteran who has spent his entire career in the perfumery industry, Monegal brings to Eurofragance experience gathered in South and North America, Asia and Europe, particularly in the Home and Personal Care categories. While most of his career was spent at Firmenich, he most recently held the position of General Manager at Iberchem, prior to their acquisition by Croda.
When asked why he feels that the business of fragranced home and body care products is so important, Monegal responds: “In our industry, a fine fragrance typically contributes good business margins to the bottom line, but volumes are small; a laundry detergent offers narrow margins, but volumes are big; and a shower gel probably fits between the two. We must compete—and win—on all three fronts to ensure continued profitability and growth.” Laurent Mercier, Chief Executive Officer at Eurofragance adds: “Our vision has always been to be the perfume house of choice for all categories of products, but our new strategy requires that we now step up the momentum. Olegario is clearly cut out for this challenge; we are all onboard in supporting Olegario reach our common objectives.”
Monegal was born and raised in Barcelona where he graduated from ESADE Business School with an MBA, specializing in Marketing and Finance. Asked about being back in his hometown, Monegal says: “I am excited to apply the perfumery competencies and knowledge I’ve accumulated around the world to an up-and-coming fragrance house in a city that is so dear to me.”
