Eurofragance and the Pasqual Maragall Foundation have launched a perfume called “És Possible” (It’s possible), on behalf of the foundation’s tenth anniversary slogan.
The company, which has been part of the Patronage Council of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation since 2014, aims therefore to strengthen its support for the scientific projects that the organization is currently carrying out against Alzheimer's and neurodegenerative diseases.
The raw ingredients used to create this fragrance have been specifically selected by Eurofragance to pay tribute to this foundation’s values and to draw attention to the close connection between our sense of smell and memory.
Eurofragance designed this new perfume to reflect the correlation between the chords of a perfume - head, heart and base - and the people.  The perfume will be given to the attendees (partners and volunteers of the Foundation) at the 10th anniversary celebration gala. The event will be held on Thursday, November 15th, starting at 7pm, at the Auditori Fòrum in Barcelona. A symbolic gift for the unparalleled work they do every day.
The result will be given as a gift to attendees (members and participants in research studies) to the event marking the foundation’s tenth anniversary. The gift symbolises the priceless work that they do every day.
The fragrance has citrus head notes like mandarin, pink grapefruit and sweet orange that transmit the positivity, energy and optimism shown by volunteers in their daily battle against Alzheimer.
The perfume also refers to the innovative and creative aspects of the organisation. The continual search for new treatments and processes that Pasqual Maragall Foundation works on for tackling the disease are expressed with raw materials like pink pepper and coffee absolute obtained using unusual extraction techniques such as CO2 distillation.
White flowers dominate the heart of the perfume to symbolise the affection, close relationships and human warmth between Alzheimer patients and their relatives and loved ones while they are ill.
And of course, “És Possible” makes reference to the hallmark scientific rigour and social responsibility of the Pasqual Maragall Foundation. The excellent work done by its researchers is honoured in this perfume by robust, strong woody touches of vetiver, cedarwood and amber.
 
Scents and memories
Aromas and smells are external stimuli that go almost straight to the brain's limbic system through the sense of smell, an area closely related to emotions and memory. Certain essences have a surprising effect on people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. According to the foundation, “we associate some smells with feelings, and when we smell them again they quickly evoke the feeling and its associated memories again”.
There are several types of memories, long and short-term and, the latter being those related to the things we do almost automatically (like following routines or riding a bike) and feelings that appear when we are stimulated in certain ways. Some stimuli can trigger the connections and bring back memories of feelings we have created throughout our lives. There are many types of stimuli, but in the case of the sense of smell it might be a perfume or certain types of food. Whenever the senses perceive these stimuli, it activates these connections, just like meaningful music.
Connections of this type are resistant to brain disorders like Alzheimer’s disease. In this case, memories are evoked by alternative rather than conventional means to consciously recover memories, activating a network that can reach distant memories by means of the paths least susceptible to brain damage.
