Soap Cycling Singapore is an NGO that works with students, hotels, businesses, volunteers, and charities across Asia to recycle soap. In a movement to improve sanitation and hygiene, the organization collects, cleans, and renews gently used soaps that are about to be thrown out. Its efforts help support recycling and greener living, as well as waste reduction by distributing soap to regions without it and that need it most.
Soap Cycling was founded in 2012 by David Bishop, a law professor at The University of Hong Kong, and a group of his students. In 2017, operations started in Singapore, pioneered by students from the National University of Singapore.
We had the opportunity to connect with Jacqueline (Jackie) Tan, Soap Cycling Singapore’s partnerships manager, to discuss the organization’s journey and mission. She explained the recycling process that the organization follows, from initial collection to final distribution.
The process starts with the collection of lightly-used soap from local hotels in Singapore. “At the moment, we are saving 510kg of lightly used soap from the incinerator,” she explains.
Next, the soap is sent to Soap Cycling warehouses, which rely on partnerships. As in any other company, growth happens in small steps; after years of storing soap under their beds, one of their local partners has offered a modest storage place and activity spaces for volunteering sessions. “We experience an amicable collaboration here. This local charity is serving the migrant workers community in Singapore. Injured workers cannot work, so we compensate them by giving them tasks they can perform and covering their transport, leases and food costs” explains Jackie.
The soap is then sorted, recycled, and distributed to the needy with the help of NGO partners. In 2019, they distributed over 300kg (7,500 soap bars) in Singapore and the nearby region. Besides their local distribution, they also sent out soap to Indonesia and The Philippines.
To face down the COVID-19 crisis, Soap Cycling is joining forces with charity partners to distribute soap to vulnerable populations. “Our partners have already hand sanitizer and masks, so we are putting together a care package that we distribute. So far, we have distributed this care package to 1,800 workers in the past 2 weeks,” Jackie adds.
When asked about where she sees Soap Cycling moving in the next 5 years, Jackie explained that the organization wants to keep supporting the Singaporean and migrant worker communities and expand rapidly so that it can provide soap to disadvantaged communities throughout Southeast Asia. Moreover, she sees the future of the organization including liquid soap collection and recycling.
Eurofragance has contributed immensely to Soap Cycling Singapore’s recent development, and that’s just the start. We are going to continue to support this organization so that more projects can be undertaken and developed, and even more people can be helped.
There are many types of bad smell, but the one that worries consumers all over the world is the foul smell of tobacco smoke. Whether or not you are a smoker, the smell of tobacco smoke is an enemy that we would all like to do without. Studies show getting rid of the smell of cigarette smoke is a concern shared by consumers on all continents, and proof of this are the thousands of Google searches trying to find the answer to the same question: “How can I get rid of the smell of smoke?” EURO-MC™ fragrances are the answer!
EURO-MC™ is your ally against bad smells
EURO-MC™ is a technology developed by Eurofragance to get rid of specific bad smells. The first challenge: to neutralise the stench of tobacco. What does it do? The idea is to integrate and void the sensory effect of bad-smelling molecules with a fragrance for use as an air freshener. Rather than masking or overwhelming one smell with another, it neutralises the bad smell to create a pleasant one, without being strong or invasive. Mission accomplished!
Five fragrances for banishing the smell of tobacco smoke
Woodland, Wild Bloom, Indigo, Luminous and Tealicious are five fragrances created by Eurofragance with one purpose in mind: to keep rooms smelling pleasant and smoke-free for longer.
- WOODLAND (WOODY HESPERIDIC). A fruity fragrance with woody notes created with essence of grapefruit, sage, cardamom, labdanum, moss, and cedar wood.
- WILD BLOOM (FLORAL ROSE). A floral combination of lime, rose, wild peony, lily of the valley, patchouli, and sandalwood.
- INDIGO (AROMATIC FLORAL). With essence of lavender, Oolong tea, pink pepper, iris, blue cedarwood, and cashmere.
- LUMINOUS (AROMATIC MARINE). A blend of tangerine, lavender, sea salt, water accord, ambergris, and white sandalwood.
- TEALICIOUS (AROMATIC TEA). Contains blood orange, dewy leaves, green tea, waterlilies, driftwood, and musk.
Fresh, sweet, citrus scents… Something for everyone! Rigorous scientific tests have shown that this innovative method gives excellent results. First, we create the bad smell in a controlled and reproducible way in our new olfactory booths, then we spray the booth with one of the fragrances from the collection… et voilà! The intensity of the nasty smell immediately falls, and a mild, harmonious aroma appears.
But that’s not all. There are three more smoke-busting fragrances in development, as well as a new product that will banish disgusting bathroom odours once and for all. These invisible enemies are about to get their marching orders… forever!
Which raw materials should you be looking for depending on what you need
Scents have an effect on us, they can boost our energy, help us relax, make us feel good, take us back in time, etc. Despite not having been scientifically proved, the fact is that certain fragrances influence our mood and emotions.
Fragrances have the power to awake our senses. Furthermore, there are smells that can bring us back old memories: the perfume of our mother, the detergent with which clothes were washed at our house when we were children, the jasmine that used to be at our home town gardens, etc.
As we have said in previous posts, the sense of smell is connected to the part of the brain that processes emotions. Hence the influence of smells on our feelings.
You might be wondering, then, how to use fragrances to promote different sensations. Let us give you some advice. But, keep in mind that the fragrance world is as wide and subjective as humans are. So, there are scents that have different effect depending on the person.
Energy and productivity
Do you want to feel energetic and productive? There are certain raw materials used to create fragrances that can boost your energy and productivity. So, when looking for a perfume, body lotion or body wash the fragrance of which energizes you, search for ingredients such as sea salt, sea minerals, algae, lemon and citric notes, in general. They can help you to feel charged.
If what you need is to relax after a stressing day at work, you should be looking for fragrances that contain raw materials like lavender, jasmine or peppermint. What about a lavender bath essence or a candle with a jasmine scent? Give it a try and see what effect these fragrances have on you.
When feeling emotional, cinnamon, chocolate, vanilla, rose, or the perfume of a beloved one can have a lovely effect on your feelings! Also, sandalwood notes can boost sensuality and desire. It is just up to you!
Orange blossom, lily of the valley or bergamot are commonly used for fragrances that aim to create welcoming environments and wellness.
At Eurofragance, our aim is to be a global leader capturing sensations with the fragrances we create for customers within the Fine Fragrance, Home Care and Personal Care segments. Our goal is to promote wellbeing, happiness and positive sensations through our creations.

Eurofragance evolved values are Passion, Performance and Entrepreneurship. We are guided by the Passion for fragrances, we are motivated by ambitious challenges and growth projects (Performance), and we are illuminated by the flame of the entrepreneurial spirit (Entrepreneurship) that started the very first day of our foundation in 1990.
- Passion means to us the love for fragrance world, for our daily job and for Eurofragance. None of our successes would have been possible without the passion that we add to every project, to every new fragrance.
- Performance is key to us. Our fragrances must be those preferred by our clients´ customers. Therefore, our activities and efforts are clearly oriented to deliver targets, over time.
- Entrepreneurship is part of Eurofragance. Our company is “the dream of an adventurous entrepreneur who has succeeded in seducing the world market with his fragrances”. In 1990, a young entrepreneur called Santiago Sabatés, now Chairman of Eurofragance, embarked on an adventure in the fragrance world which led to the growth of an international company with a presence in several continents: Europe, Asia, America and Africa. This entrepreneurial spirit has taken us this far because we take risks and never give up.
These three ingredients of Eurofragance essence are meant to achieve the company´s mission: design the best fragrances in partnership with its clients in order to make their products those preferred by consumers.
Keep your senses wide awake, Eurofragance keeps capturing sensations to deliver unique fragrances that you will find in different products such as perfumes, body lotions, soaps, air fresheners or candles, to name some.
We are PASSION, PERFORMANCE & ENTREPRENEURSHIP.
Eurofragance, where designing and producing fragrances become a sustainable art
Global warming, polluted air, contaminated water are some marks of human life on Earth. While we are writing this, The Independent just posted an article called Global warming didn’t pause, and is carrying on at catastrophic levels, scientists warn. It is, therefore, critical that us, human beings, start doing something about it.
At Eurofragance, we have always been environmentally responsible because nature is life, nature is the origin of our work, of raw materials, of fragrances. In order to perform our job with no harm for the environment, our company holds certifications such as ISO 14001, which shows that we work to reduce our environmental impact and be efficient while taking care of nature. We are committed to the environment and sustainability and so are our employees.
Over all these years, since company was launched 26 years ago, we have implemented different actions to help against global warming and ensure a sustainable fragrance design and production. Eurofragance complies with regulations such as the REACH Regulation that regulates the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemical substances and preparations to ensure a high level of protection of human health and the environment.
We also take part of sustainable initiatives. In fact, we recently we were part of an initiative that has beem acknowledged by CNN. We joined forces with Educo and Eco-Soap Bank to carry out a charitable, sustainable project to encourage hygiene in Cambodian schools. Through this initiative -in which Markus Steger, General Manager of Eurofragance Asia Pacific, was involved- a total of 11,840 bars of soap were given out in 99 primary and pre-school schools, with an impact on around 20,000 children.
The project aimed to teach kids about hygiene and to encourage healthy habits to avoid health problems. Furthermore, the bars of soap were recycled and have been sterilised to contribute to the sustainable development of the planet.
Eurofragance is on nature´s side. Our company works every day to design and produce responsible fragrances, fragrances for perfumery, body care and home care products that Capture Sensations. We love what we do, so we made of our job a sustainable art.
