The right amount of certain olfactory notes can make a difference between a captivating perfume and an indiscernible one
Why balance is so important? We all spend our lives looking for balance, at least a minimum equilibrium which allows us enjoy little things and avoid drama.
Lately, there is an artist working on balance and inspiring the most creative minds through his work. Kokei Mikuni, an expert on rock balancing, gets inspiration from nature where he tries to find the balance, where he creates its art.
The perfume art requires also an essential equilibrium, the right amount of certain olfactory notes, no more, no less. Perfume creation is not only mixing some different raw materials. To create a perfume, we need to analyse how much quantity we need of each ingredient to get an enchanting fragrance instead of an indiscernible one.
The same effect that Kokei Mikuni gets when people see him constructing his rock structures is the effect that perfumers look for when producing a fragrance: attention, attraction, fascination, magnetism.
However, you don´t get those characteristics in a perfume easily. Creating a fragrance requires not only a balance among the olfactory notes we are adding. There are more elements to be considered. Apart from following the regulatory rules, perfumers need to find the balance between the following points: what the client expects from the perfume, what scents the targeted consumers are willing to wear, what kind of smell matches the goals pursued with the perfume creation and also what are the ideal olfactory notes to express what that creation pretends to be.
After considering the above aspects, it is time to find the balance! And yet the balance can be subjective, it depends on the nose who smells.

Eurofragance presents Eurofragance Bar, a selection of 15 scents inspired by cocktails and used in personal care products
We all know there are two senses really connected and they are smell and taste. Smell helps us feel the flavour in food and drinks. Why not converting flavours into smells? Why not conveying exotic flavours to captivating fragrances?
Eurofragance Bar is the result of doing so: a selection of 15 fragrances inspired by cocktails and used in personal care products such as: jelly bath with watermelon martini fragrance, a gin tonic scented shaving gel or a sun protection cream with pina colada smell.
Our firm took part in the Expo Cosmética 2016 trade show at the World Trade Centre Mexico City on 3 and 4 August. We presented our Bar along with our local distributors, Kemcare and Mexfragance, and also launched a special fine fragrance collection that has been created by the perfumer Jorge Guerrero. This collection is inspired by the world’s most famous drinks as well, such as whisky, gin tonic, mezcal or cava.

Sun, water, relax, cocktail in hand…yay we are on holiday! But don´t forget protecting your skin from damaging rays! Welcome to the sunscreen world. There are some secrets about sunscreen lotions we want you to know and also about that captivating fragrance everyone loves.
- What SPF actually means?
Along with a number, the Sun Protection Factor (SPF) refers to the amount of time you get protection when you apply sunscreen. Let´s say your skin gets burned within 10 minutes sunbathing. If you use SPF 20, your skin will get burned 20 times after, which means 200 minutes after being sunbathing, 3 hours and 20 minutes.
However, the SPF indicates the protection against UVB rays, means it protects our skin from getting burned. To avoid UVA rays, the ones that can penetrate deeper into the dermis, the thickest layer of the skin, we should check on the sunscreen label “Broad Spectrum”.
- Why has it got an expiry date?
Sunscreens are commonly made with specifically formulated stabilizers that protect its effectiveness for up to two years, but that’s supposing you didn´t leave the sunscreen under the sun heat for too long. It is advisable to store the solar protection lotion in a place with cool temperature and try and keep it in the shade when you go to the beach or pool.
- How its smell can be so likeable?
It might be because its smell reminds us summer time; it reminds us journeys to the beach; when our mum used to apply sunscreen on our skin; and it also makes us recall those days when our partner gave us a massage at the same time they put the lotion on our back…
As all kind of smells, the smell of sunscreen, take us back in time, helps us recall good times and, why not, its scent is good!
